This website is dedicated to the life and poetry, of Laura Gilpin.  Although Laura passed away February 15th, 2007 at the age of 56, her life and legacy live on in her poetry.

Laura's powerful poem "The Two Headed Calf" was written in 1976 and appeared in her first book of poetry entitled "The Hocus-Pocus of the Universe".  Selected from among 1,600 submissions of unpublished poets, Laura's first book won the coveted Walt Whitman award that same year.  Sadly, Hocus-Pocus has been out of print now for 48 years making it very difficult for people to find Laura's work.

Today, her poem The Two Headed Calf continues to resonate across the world touching the lives of thousands of people.  Unfortunately, most people don't realize that this is just one of many of her beautiful works of poetry.

When Laura was diagnosed with a glioblastoma (brain tumor) she was told she had just 6 months to live.  Laura quickly began assembling her unpublished poetry and published her second book of poetry entitled "The Weight Of The Soul" which also includes the poetry of her first book as well.

This website opens the doors to Laura's amazing life and her love of poetry.  All are welcome....
